Organized Training programme on high density planting, management and rejuvenation of old and unproductive orchards of mango and guava

ICAR- CISH, Lucknow organized three days training programme on high density planting, management and rejuvenation of old and unproductive orchards of mango and guava during September 13-15 2023 for the farmers. Twenty seven farmers including two representatives from Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh participated in training. At the outset, Dr. T. Damodaran, Director underlined the importance of management and rejuvenation of old and unproductive orchards of mango and guava and scope and establishment of modern nursery, concept of high density plantation and suitable varieties of fruit crops etc aspects that will help in boosting the income of farming communities. He also stressed on various processed and value added products of fruits to reduce the post harvest losses. During the training programme lectures pertaining to establishment of good orchards, production technology, important varieties of guava and mango and its cultivation methods, high density planting, nutrition and irrigation management in rejuvenated and old orchards of mango and guava, natural farming, organic fruit production, high density planting and canopy management, pruning, container gardening of fruit crops, scientific cultivation of bael and aonla, cultivation of ber in desert and barren land, important insect pest and diseases of guava their integrated management, processing and value addition of mango and guava, identification of maturity of mango and guava, post harvesting methods etc. were given by the scientific faculties of the institute along with laboratory visits. Hands on training on preparation of grafted plants of mango and guava, management of nursery and mother blocks were given to the farmers during field visit. This training was sponsored by Jan Mitram Kalyan Samiti Raigarh Chhattisgarh. Dr. Naresh Babu, Principal Scientist, Dr. Abha Singh, Principal Scientist and Dr. S.K. Singh, Sr. Scientist coordinated the programme.
